April 17,2017--Recent years, the Department of Transportation in southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) exerts all its strength to push forward ecological civilization construction and green transportation construction, in order to guard the important ecological safe shelter zone of our country.

TAR Department of Transportation sets up the concept of developing green transportation and put it into explicit transportation planning, in order to realize sustainable development of highway construction and environmental protection.

In enhancing the construction of green highway, the TAR Department of Transportation has set up several demonstration projects on planting trees along roadsides.

Meanwhile, to strengthen the system of ecological protection and intensify supervision of environmental protection, relevant environmental protection agency responsible for environmental protection during project construction has been set up. TAR Department of Transportation has worked out the Environmental Protection Manual based on environmental assessment of construction projects to support environmental supervision work. Ecological protection content is required to be listed into traffic design document, too.

Trainings on traffic environmental protection as well as soil and water conservation around the whole region have greatly improved the ecological environmental protection consciousness of all workers in TAR Department of Transportation. Highway maintenance and environmental protection work have been listed into annual assessment of all relevant offices. Cleaning up garbage area along roads and highways has become a routine of daily maintenance. In improving the way of road maintenance, new material, technique, and equipment have been applied during maintenance work. Plus, 188 new energy buses (gas) have been brought in the region, and 2134 taxis have been converted into gas burning ones, which accounts for 81.6% of the total number of taxis of the whole region.
