Panchen Lama visits Jokhang Temple in Lhasa

The Panchen Lama has visited Jokhang Temple in Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region.

 

The Panchen Lama paid homage and presented khatags, the ceremonial silk scarves used by Tibetans for blessings, to the Buddha statues there.

He also led a 30-minute sutra chanting ceremony. He and the temple's monks prayed for the prosperity and stability of the country and a good harvest. Afterwards, the Panchen Lama blessed the monks in the traditional way.

Jokhang Temple is the most famous monastery in Lhasa. The Panchen Lama was selected as a living Buddha at the Jokhang Temple 14 years ago when he was 5 years old.
