The representative of the Dalai Lama had been arrested by Nepal police on Sunday to prevent the anti-China demonstrations in Nepal on March 10, which is viewed by Tibetans in exile as the "Tibetan Uprising Day".
On this date in 1959, the Dalai Lama and his supporters started an armed rebellion and failed to fight against the Communist Party of China. In recent years, many Tibetans in exile always get together to protest in front of the Chinese embassies in US and European countries on this so called "Tibetan Uprising Day".
The Nepal police said due to Nepal's neighbor location of Tibet, over 4,000 Nepal police engaged in solving the Tibetans in exile issue in March last year.
"There are over 20,000 Tibetans in exile in Nepal, and many of them plan to demonstrate and fast in front of the Chinese embassy on March 10, " an oversea Chinese in Kathmandu said.
An expert on international issue from China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations gave comment:" Nepal is upholding the responsibility of the friendly neighbors by foiling anti-China activities. Meanwhile it's also a warning to Tibetan separatists and Tibetans in exile. |
