With great efforts from the central government, a total of 628.2 million yuan has been invested to help 87,000 Tibetans get out of poverty in 2009. Only 596,000 people have the net income less than 1,700 yuan per year.
Last year, 12,543 houses had been allocated for poverty-stricken Tibetans. Over 300 poverty alleviation projects had been carried on in 41 townships and 246 administrative villages.
Besides, the government organized skill trainings and promoted characteristic industries such as Amdo sheep fattening and Dranang pulu weaving which help increase at least 450 yuan net income for the per capita of needy Tibetans.
In 2009, researching pro-poor agriculture, developing featured industries and improving Tibetans' basic skills help 339,200 farmers and herdsmen increase 183 million yuan and ensure an increase of 13 percent for the per capita net income of Tibetans. |
