Reporters learned from the Ministry of Water Resources that Tibet's first "Bulletin for Soil and Water Conservation" was recently published.
The bulletin shows that Tibet's work of controlling water loss and soil erosion has achieved remarkable results. During the period between 1999 and 2009, Tibet treated 40,000 hectares of land for water loss and soil erosion, constructed 200 various gully-control dams and impounding reservoirs, and planted grass on about 20,000 hectares of land.

(Xinhua Photo) In the past 10 years, Tibet changed its old treatment method of planting only trees, and developed a comprehensive small-watershed treatment method which agrees quite well with the special climate of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
According to the "Water and Soil Conservation Law" promulgated by China, the government of Tibet Autonomous Region strengthened its prevention, supervision and control of water loss and soil erosion, and approved and developed 51 construction projects and water and soil conservation projects in Tibet in the past 10 years, covering water conservation, electric power, highways, mining, railways and other areas. |
