"Dalai Lama's forgoing reincarnation violates tradition," said the living Buddha Shinza-Tenzin Choeta, as a delegate of China's National People's Congress and vice chairman of Tibet Regional People's Congress when received an interview in Beijing on March 4th.
Shinza-Tenzin Choeta expressed his opinion about Dalai Lama to end 600 years of history by forgoing rebirth. He said:"Tibetan Buddhism is a religion with strict precepts. Any Tibetan Buddhism religious ritual could not be altered easily, especially the Reincarnation of Living Buddha with its own rules could not be changed by one person's will."
The Dalai Lama could end 600 years of history by forgoing rebirth in a bid to stop China seizing control of his reincarnation, he revealed during the interview of the United States National Radio on Feb 22 this year.
In 1993, Dalai Lama said to the German magazine "Der Spiegel", "The reincarnation won't exist in such political situation." In Sep. 1996, he reiterated such kind of opinion in Australia. In 2007, while visiting Japan, he said he might appoint a reincarnation when he was still alive. In 2008, Dalai Lama changed his mind to break the tradition of being reborn as only small boy. However, in 2009, this exiled Tibetan Buddhist leader proposed to hold a referendum among his 14 million followers to decide whether he should be reborn.
"The reincarnation of living Buddhas in Tibetan Buddhism has at least three processes. One is to seek the reincarnated soul boy following the religious doctrines. The second is to choose the suitable reincarnated soul boy. And the third is to get the approval from government," Shinza-Tenzin Choeta introduced. "Then to hold the sitting-in-the-bed ceremony shows the reincarnated soul boy as a living Buddha."
"Besides, the Dalai Lama violated the taboo in Tibetan Buddhism. No Buddhism believers will talk about the things after the death. Look back to the history, no former Dalai Lamas talked about the reincarnation issue while alive." "It's so obvious that the 14th Dalai Lama is hyping the reincarnation with certain political purposes."
Shinza-Tenzin Choeta was designed as the 14th reincarnated living Buddha in Shinza temple in 1955. After the Democratic Reform in Tibet in 1959, the nine-year-old Living Buddha went out of the temple and became a village teacher. Long-term working in Lhoka, he had engaged in temple renovations, monks' study as well. In 2008, Shinza-Tenzin Choeta was appointed as deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Regional People's Congress. |
